A severed hand takes the runway

Heidi Klum unveiled a severed-hand costume for her 2026 Halloween look at her 25th annual Halloween party in New York City on Saturday, October 31. [1] If you have followed her yearly transformations, this one is the bloodiest entry yet. [1][2]

She arrived in a truck covered in red danger signs, helped to the ground by actors in yellow hazmat suits. [2] Then she walked the runway covered in fake blood and surrounded by hazmat workers, some of whom had blood splattered on their suits. [1]

What the costume looks like

The costume is a replica of her real hand, including blood-soaked tendons and bone sticking out. [1] It has a bloody wrist and her head at the center of the hand, with fingers featuring rings and a fresh manicure. [2]

The details come from her own hand. The costume included a replica of her actual wedding ring. [1] The team also recreated her engagement ring, her wedding band and the small tattoo on her finger. [3]

How the team built it

Her costume designer Mike Marino led the work with his ProRenFX team. [3] They used scans of Klum's body to create an exact replica of her hand. [3]

Marino said in an interview that the costume is one of the most elaborate costumes ever made and very difficult to do. [2] Klum said it would involve a lot of prosthetics, paint and spray, and that she expected to break out in hives and pimples afterward. [1]

A year in the making

Klum began developing the idea about a year before the party, before her 2025 Halloween bash where she dressed as Medusa. [3] That look had green scales, reptilian body paint, sharp fangs and a long tongue, and it took 10 hours to complete. [1]

Her reasoning for the hand was simple. She said she wanted to take something ordinary and make it bizarre, and that it would be funny to take something familiar and twist it. [3]

Past years brought transformations into E.T., a peacock, a worm and Fiona from Shrek. [3]

The teaser and the promises

Klum shared a creepy close-up teaser on Instagram on Saturday, October 24, captioned asking what her costume was, which led fans to guess. [1] Fans had been guessing after she shared an eerie sneak peek via Instagram. [1]

She told Entertainment Tonight that her costume would be an 11 on a scale of one to 10. [1] She also told People her look would be very, very bloody and goes very well with red wine. [2]

The party and the wine

Klum said the 2026 party was the 25th anniversary of her Halloween party. [3] It was held at the Cathédrale restaurant in Manhattan. [3] The event was presented by Apothic and Butterfinger and hosted at Cathédrale Restaurant at Moxy East Village. [2]

Klum partnered with Apothic Wines on limited-edition Apothic x Heidi Klum Type 'A' Blood Bags, a Halloween collectible also served at the party. [2]

What it means for you

If you were one of the fans guessing at the October 24 teaser, you now have the answer: a severed hand modeled on her own. [1][3] If you want to look closer, the details to check are the replica wedding ring, the engagement ring, the wedding band and the small finger tattoo. [1][3]

If the wine tie-in interests you, the limited-edition Apothic x Heidi Klum Type 'A' Blood Bags are the Halloween collectible she partnered on. [2]
